![]() Edmonton residents can have their say on the alignment for a proposed Whyte Avenue-area and east Edmonton LRT this summer. City officials released their public engagement dates Wednesday, hosting open houses this evening, July 20 and July 22. The event this evening is at the Bonnie Doon Community Hall at 9240 93 Street. Formerly called the Downtown circulator, this central LRT has been pitched as the last piece to create a light rail loop through the most population dense parts of the city. It would connect Strathcona, Downtown, Bonnie Doon and east Edmonton, spurring further increased density in the areas while offering an alternative form of transportation. The study starting this summer would determine where the new street level LRT would run on the road, the stop locations, and bike/pedestrian connections, say officials. The concept plan is scheduled to go to city council before the end of 2018. The work is being paid for in part by federal dollars. Earlier this year, council agreed to study the northwest and southwest extensions and this central circulator before voting on further priorities. They said the next priority for construction is the west extension and the extension into Blatchford. In addition to the three open houses, people will get a chance to find out more about the line at events throughout the summer.
